Sunrise over Hua Shan, China

Hua Shan, or Mount Hua, is in the Shaanxi province about 120km east of Xi’an. It is one of China’s five sacred Taoist Mountains, with a long history of religious significance. The South Peak rises to the highest point, at 2,154.9 meters tall.

Many hike up this mildly tall mountain during the wee hours of the morning in order to catch the sunrise on the East Peak. Unfortunately, it was cloudy on the day I visited. Still, the sunrise was out of this world.

  1. You hiked all the way up?? We rode the cable car on this one and fortunately i conquered my acrophobia, altophobia whatever and..as you can see, mount hua behind me.

    1. Actually, I took the cable car up mostly because it was getting late in the day. I stayed on the mountain over night and hiked down in the morning. Beautiful mountain to conquer your fears on though!
